Linkse kritiek op het Zionisme van rechtse partijen

"Who told a Berlin audience in March 1912 that “each country can absorb only a limited number of Jews, if she doesn’t want disorders in her stomach. Germany already has too many Jews”?
No, not Adolf Hitler but Chaim Weizmann, later president of the World Zionist Organization and later still the first president of the state of Israel.
And where might you find the following assertion, originally composed in 1917 but republished as late as 1936: “The Jew is a caricature of a normal, natural human being, both physically and spiritually. As an individual in society he revolts and throws off the harness of social obligation, knows no order nor discipline”?
Not in Der Stürmer but in the organ of the Zionist youth organization, Hashomer Hatzair.
As the above quoted statement reveals, Zionism itself encouraged and exploited self-hatred in the Diaspora. It started from the assumption that anti-Semitism was inevitable and even in a sense justified so long as Jews were outside the land of Israel.

It is true that only an extreme lunatic fringe of Zionism went so far as to offer to join the war on Germany’s side in 1941, in the hope of establishing “the historical Jewish state on a national and totalitarian basis, and bound by a treaty with the German Reich”. Unfortunately this was the group which the present Prime Minister of Israel chose to join.
That fact gives an extra edge of topicality to what would in any case be a highly controversial study of the Zionist record in the heyday of European fascism by Lenni Brenner, an American Trotskyist writer who happens also to be Jewish.” (The Times (London), February 11, 1984)

Deir Yassin, 9 april 1948

About 100-120 of Deir Yassin's residents, a great number of whom were women and children, were massacred. The village was a Palestinian Arab town of about 750 located west of Jerusalem.
It is generally agreed that the massacre had some, if not great, effect in causing Palestinian Arabs to flee during the 1948 war, thereby causing or aggravating the Palestinian refugee problem. It has to some degree affected relationships between Israeli political parties, as the massacre at Deir Yassin has been cited as grounds for criticizing the Likud movement which is the political descendant of the guerrilla groups which took part in the massacre.

Deir Yassin - The Evidence

Deir Yassin was a village near the entrance to Jerusalem, north west of Givat Shaul. Not wishing to endanger itself, it had concluded a peace pact with Givat Shaul that was approved by Yitzhak Navon, who headed the Arab division of Haganah intelligence. A similar pact was made by the village of Abu Ghosh. There is every indication that Deir Yassin kept to this pact.
The Irgun and Lehi attacked on the morning of Friday April 9, 1948. The attack went poorly, because, as Haganah intelligence reported, the two dissident groups had no training, no coordination, no knowledge of how to provide cover fire or carry out leap-frog attacks in which squads provide each other with cover in turn. While the Lehi advanced in the northeast quarter of the village, the Etzel people were unable to make any progress in the south western part of the village allotted to them, in part because of rifle sniper fire from a vantage point in the Mukhtar’s house located on the western heights. This was finally and quickly neutralized by Haganah units using a mortar sometime between 10:00 or 12:00 A.M, after which Haganah units left.
There was no longer any resistance, but the village did not surrender. Most of the men had fled, and perhaps there was no recognized leader who could surrender. At this point, or perhaps before, during the heat of battle itself, Etzel and Lehi soldiers began going from house to house and shooting the inhabitants, usually women and children. Groups of prisoners were also taken out of Deir Yassin and paraded on trucks in the streets of Jerusalem before jeering inhabitants before being passed over to the Arab sector. One group of about 15 to 25 men was returned to the village, taken to the village quarry and shot.

“I have heard with my own ears the Haganah men calling by loudspeakers in Jerusalem in the aftermath of Deir Yassin massacre, with the road to Jericho still open, You Arabs, choose between this way [namely escape] or the same destiny of Deir Yassin,” General Globe said in his book A Soldier with the Arabs." "The commanders of the Etzel and Lehi gangs, Menahem Begin and Yitzhak Shamir became Israeli prime ministers. None of them expressed any remorse, and Menahem Begin lived the last days of his life with a panoramic view of Deir Yassin from his house.
No Nuremberg judges, no vengeance, no penitence, just a path of roses all the way to a Nobel Peace prize. Menahem Begin was proud of the operation, and in his letter to the killers he congratulated them for fulfilling their national duty. "You are creators of Israel's history", he wrote. A country founded in blood--built on the backs and the corpses of a group of its inhabitants--is badly off-balance and will never recover, if it does not undertake a terrible soul-searching, a flight from violence and lies.
There is a stirring, a yearning for peace and relief from violence today, but it is still being mitigated by hatred, denial, greed, and the desire for revenge. When the Israelis learn to police their own lunatic fringe, can avoid offering with one hand what they withdraw with the other, and face the Palestinians with firm honesty, there will be a chance.

In Engeland worden heel wat colleges, toespraken en preken verlucht met het citeren uit de boeken van Lewis Carroll. Ik kan me bijvoorbeeld een college in Engeland herinneren dat begon met een gesprek tussen Alice en de witte koningin. De koningin biedt Alice aan dat ze haar kamermeisje kan worden. Als beloning krijgt ze een stuiver en elke andere dag een boterham met jam. “De regel daarbij is”, zegt de witte koningin, “morgen jam en gisteren jam, maar nooit jam vandaag”. Bij het verse graf van minister van Toerisme Rehavam Ze'evi kreeg diens fascistische erfenis reliëf in de woorden van zijn kleinzoon. Ze'evi werd vorige week door Palestijnen vermoord. ,,De tijdelijke inwoners van Cana'an (het beloofde land) moeten weten dat dit ons land is'', zei de kleinzoon. De Israëlische radio en tv zonden vele malen deze zin van de bij het graf van zijn grootvader saluerende luitenant uit. De woorden ,,tijdelijke inwoners'' slaan op Palestijnen die op de Westelijke Jordaanoever en in Israël wonen. Generaal Ze'evi erkende hun natuurlijke recht niet om hun leven op hun geboortegrond te slijten omdat het historische joodse recht op dit land prevaleert boven ieder ander recht.
Hij was echter te veel heer om deze mensen er met het geweer in de rug uit te schoppen. De minister streefde een beschaafdere oplossing na om het beloofde land van vreemden te zuiveren. ,,Transfer uit vrije wil'' was de slagzin. Hij wilde de Palestijnen uitkopen, zoals eerder rabbijn Meir Kahane vurig bepleitte.
Het is waarschijnlijk geen toeval dat beide aanhangers van de transfer-ideologie door Palestijnen werden vermoord. Rabbijn Kahane in een hotel in New York en minister Ze'evi in een hotel in Jeruzalem. Wegens zijn ideologische opvattingen was Ze'evi tot nog enkele jaren geleden een paria in de Israëlische politiek. Hij werd met de nek aangekeken en eigenlijk als politieke dwaas behandeld. Na de mislukking van premier Baraks vredesmissie en het uitbreken van de intifada opende vorig jaar Sharons verkiezingszege de toegang voor Ze'evi tot de regeringstafel. Niets kenmerkt de snelle verrechtsing van Israël meer dan het ministeriële keurmerk voor Ze'evi.
Wat opiniepeilingen in dit emotionele land ook waard zijn, 62 procent van de Israëliërs was na Ze'evi's dood voor ,,transfer uit vrije wil''. Op de dag van de begrafenis leek het wel alsof Israël een nationale held had verloren. In de context van de oorlog tegen de Palestijnen, die van ,,transfer uit vrije wil'' niets willen weten, betuigden zelfs zijn felste joodse tegenstanders de laatste eer aan Ze'evi.

Waarom vond de SS-er Heydrich de Zionisten 'goede joden'? Heel simpel, omdat zij de Nationaal-Socialistische politiek van 'transfer uit vrije wil', die er op gericht was de vreemde joodse elementen uit de maatschappij te verwijderen, ondersteunden. Zionisten en Nationaal-Socialisten waren het er over eens dat mensen die niet in racisme geloven nietswaardige kwezels zijn die het leven niet verdienen.

Reinhard Heydrich (1904-1942) was second in importance to Heinrich Himmler in the Nazi SS organization. Nicknamed "The Blond Beast" by the Nazis, and "Hangman Heydrich" by others, Heydrich had insatiable greed for power and was a cold, calculating manipulator without human compassion who was the leading planner of Hitler's Final Solution in which the Nazis attempted to exterminate the entire Jewish population of Europe.

De VS hebben aan de Palestijnse president Arafat gevraagd de daders van de moord op Zeevi aan te houden. President Bush stuurde Arafat afgelopen weekeinde een brief waarin hij dat verzoek deed. Dat heeft minister van Buitenlandse Zaken Powell donderdag voor de buitenlandcommissie van de senaat verklaard. (Metro, 26-10-2001)

Donderdag, 25 oktober 2001, riep de Veiligheidsraad van de Verenigde Naties in een door alle vijftien leden ondersteunde verklaring Israël op de Palestijnse gebieden te verlaten. Het komt zelden voor dat de Veiligheidsraad met een unanieme uitspraak komt. Zeker wat Israël betreft lopen de opvattingen sterk uiteen. De afgelopen maanden hielden de Verenigde Staten alles tegen dat als een veroordeling van het Israëlische beleid kon worden uitgelegd. (Reuters, ANP)

The New York Times called the Israeli military offensive "ill-advised" and warned Mr Sharon against actions which would undermine Mr Arafat's authority.
The Washington Post went much further, declaring in an editorial: "Israel increasingly appears to be embarked not on a legitimate action of self-defence but a destructive campaign of aggression." (BBC, 26-10-2001)

Wat George Bush - de Witte Koningin, die in wezen heel aardig is, maar die zwaar onder de plak van de Rode Koningin zit - de inwoners van het Palestiijnse Wonderland duidelijk wil maken is dat ze blij moeten reageren wanneer ze vernederd, geschoffeerd en onderdrukt worden. "Play it cool and be a fool". Je moet kalm en blij door het leven wandelen. En wanneer je dat doet, dan wordt de Rode Koningin zo kwaad, dat ze als beloning de kalme inwoners van het Palestijnse Wonderland gaat provoceren, zodat ze er compleet gek van worden. En dat is natuurlijk ook de bedoeling. Want een Wonderland mag alleen bewoond worden door mensen die gek zijn.

President George W. Bush will welcome Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to the White House for a working visit 3-4 December 2001. The U.S. and Israel share common interests in many areas, including the international campaign against terrorism and the pursuit of peace in the Middle East, said White House Press Secretary. The President looks forward to discussing these and other bilateral and regional issues with the Prime Minister. ( US Report on the Middle East, 21-11-2001)

Bush weigert Arafat te ontmoeten, maar ontvangt Sharon wel. Bijzonder eerlijk is dat niet. Wie vrede en rechtvaardigheid nastreeft zal de partners die bij het vredesproces betrokken zijn op een eerlijke en gelijkwaardige wijze moeten behandelen. Iedereen - ook de Arabische wereld - weet dat een rechtstaat staat of valt met het eerbiedigen van het principe van 'fair play'. Wie voortdurend het principe van 'fair play' aan zijn laars lapt en de wereld duidelijk maakt dat alleen degenen die vals spelen worden beloond, die bouwt aan een toekomst waarin het recht onherroepelijk in dienst zal staan van de terreur. Dat is ook de les die Lewis Carroll ons wil leren..., tenminste, als de literatuuruitleggers gelijk hebben... Want als ze niet gelijk hebben is alle literatuur doodgewone onzin en kunnen we maar beter onze bibliotheken in brand steken! Boekverbranding - zoals Adolf Hitler dat deed - is eerlijker dan serieuze schrijvers permanent voor paal zetten - zoals de regeringen van Israel en Amerika dat doen.

Sinds 28 september 2000, de dag waarop Ariel Sharon zijn offensief tegen de vrede in gang zette, zijn er in Israel en Palestina ruim 1000 doden gevallen. Ongeveer 700 aan Palestijnse kant, rond 250 aan Israelische kant. Het aantal gewonden wordt - uiterst merkwaardig is dat - in de overzichtslijsten nooit genoemd - alsof het gewond zijn een vernederende schandvlek is, die alleen maar gevoelens van walging en afkeer bij de toeschouwers op mag roepen. "Schaam je, dat je niet dood bent..." Zo'n soort gedachte - als het ware...

De hardliner Sharon - zo mogen we rustig concluderen - is niet bepaald een zegen geweest voor de Israelische natie. Sharon plaatst de ideologie boven de mens en het vreemde feit doet zich voor dat de Israelische burgers hun menszijn langzaam maar zeker ondergeschikt gaan maken aan zijn ideologie. Dat is wat extreemrechtse politici altijd doen. Ze verkleinen de mens en laten hem zien dat hij vernietigd zal worden, tenzij hij zijn toevlucht neemt tot een sterke reddende man die dood en verderf zal gaan zaaien.
Er moet gekozen worden tussen het teruggeven van het bezette gebied of het volledig annexeren van het bezette gebied. Rechts Israel wilde in het verleden zowel annexeren, omdat de fascistische machtsideologie dat eist, als niet-annexeren, omdat de intellectuele component van de ideologie eist dat men een moreel voorbeeld is.
De fundamentalistische verzetsbewegingen staan dat schizofrene schippergedrag niet toe. Wat dat betreft is fundamentalisme een last, maar ook een zegen. De fundamentalisten zeggen: "Geef ons een eigen staat of sla ons dood". en dat betekent dat Sharon, die de Palestijnen geen eigen staat gunt, alleen zal kunnen winnen wanneer hij kiest voor een gigantisch moord- en vernietigingsproces.
Wanneer hij een moreel voorbeeld wil zijn - dus afstand wil doen van het verlangen een primitieve winnaar te zijn - dan zal hij een concreet gebaar moeten maken en dat gebaar kan alleen maar ontmanteling en ontruiming van de nederzettingen zijn.

Soms moet je, om in moreel opzicht te kunnen winnen, jezelf vernederen. Maar die geestelijke kracht heeft Ariel Sharon tot nu toe niet op kunnen brengen.

Sharon Verdedigt Slavernij

"De enthousiaste steun van rechts voor het ontmantelen van de Palestijnse Autoriteit en het verjagen van Yasser Arafat lijkt te ontspringen aan het waanidee dat als de Palestijnse Autoriteit verdwijnt daarmee ook de Palestijnen verdwijnen. Die blijven echter achter, samen met hun legitieme politieke aspiraties en de gewelddadige manier waarop ze die soms nastreven." (Volkskrant, 4-12-2001)

Ariel Sharon (extreem rechts polticus) probeert al meer dan twintig jaar de Palestijnse leiders te vernietigen. Hij heeft nooit iets anders gedaan en hij zal ook nooit iets anders doen. Wat Sharon nodig heeft zijn slaven. Palestijnen moeten luisteren en gehoorzamen - een vorm van geestelijk niet aanwezig zijn - en elke vorm van machtsdenken (denken dat de wereld wil tonen dat er in een joodse staat ook niet-joden willen bestaan) moet daarom vernietigd worden. Alleen het jood zijn is belangrijk. Wie niet jood is kan doodvallen. Martin Bormann (medewerker van Hitler) koos voor een soortgelijke opstelling: "De Polen", zo zei hij, "moeten de slaven van het Duitse Rijk worden."

United Nations & Palestine

Addressing the issue in March 1979, the Security Council reaffirmed the applicability of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits settlements in occupied territory, and declared that Israeli policy and practice regarding settlements had "no legal validity and constitute a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East". The Council asked Israel not to take any action which would change the legal status, geographical nature and demographic composition of the Arab territories occupied since 1967. In particular, it asked Israel not to transfer part of its own civilian population into the occupied territories. It established a three-member Security Council Commission to examine the situation relating to the Israeli settlements.

In July 1979, the Council strongly deplored Israel's lack of cooperation with the Commission in preparing its report, and emphasized the need to confront the issue of existing settlements. It called upon "the Government and people of Israel to cease, on an urgent basis, the establishment, construction and planning of settlements".
